Grand Strand business brewing up special drink honoring first responders

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Folks can crack open a cold one for a good cause, with Grand Strand Brewing Company releasing a new beer to honor first responders.
The unique red ale with smoked malts is called “Jobtown,” a common term firefighters use when they head out to a call.
Grand Strand Brewing came up with the cherrywood smoke flavor with a hint of sweetness to reflect a smoldering fire.
For every can sold, 25% of the proceeds will go to the Myrtle Beach Fire Department.
You can get a four-pack for around $15 or a glass on draft, but only for a limited time while supplies last.
Myrtle Beach firefighter John Kofoet is the secretary of the Myrtle Beach Professional Firefighters Association Local 2345 and came up with the idea.
He said the beer will benefit several charities, including the South Carolina Burned Children’s Fund and the Joe Tamney Fund, which assists firefighters and their families facing hardships.
Kofoet said enjoying a beer at the end of a long day is typical for a firefighter, so he couldn’t imagine a better fundraiser.
“You get home from a long day of work, and you have a hard time sometimes on a bad shift,” Kofoet said. “You want to go home and kind of decompress, and a nice cold beer with a crack of a cold can always help out.”
Grand Strand Brewing owner Christophe Perdu said it’s amazing to help their perfect vision of a beer come to life.
“They’re the heart of the city,” Perdu said. “They’ve been stretched thin this whole year. We’re just happy we found a way to help them out a little bit.”
You can try “Jobtown” during Grand Strand Brewing’s release event at 6 p.m.
