Ford Shipping New Tesla Supercharger Adapters to Those Waiting on Freebies

Ford is now shipping new Tesla Supercharger adapters to EV drivers who requested them during a promotion that ran for most of 2024.

“Customers who are awaiting a complimentary adapter may receive the new Ford-branded Fast Charging Adapter or the existing approved adapter,” a spokesperson tells PCMag.

Lectron, the manufacturer of the new adapter, says it’s been working with Ford “for some time” to increase adapter supply amid ongoing delivery delays.

Ford says these adapters are not replacements for those that were recalled earlier this month amid concern about EV damage. The Lectron adapters are intended “to add more supply so that Ford customers can get their adapters faster,” Ford says.

Those who did not request a free adapter earlier this year can buy the Lectron-made Ford Fast Charging Adapter for $200 starting in February 2025. That’s slightly cheaper than the $230 Ford has been charging for adapters to date.

It’s unclear if the Lectron adapter differs from the already available Lectron Vortex adapter. A Lectron spokesperson declined to provide exact specs, but said “the design and build will be fairly similar to Lectron’s version—just with the Ford logo.”

Though it’s not technically a “Ford-approved” option, some Ford customers have been purchasing the Vortex while they await Ford-approved hardware, along with A2Z’s Typhoon Pro adapter. However, Reddit and other forums are full of discussions about their performance.

Lectron says the adapter was “rigorously tested for Ford electric vehicles—Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, E-Transit Van.” Lectron makes Supercharger adapters for General Motors as well, but says this adapter is specifically tested for Ford vehicles.
